Volunteer to read one on one for 30 minutes a week with a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd grade student in a KC metro school! We are looking 200 volunteers to finish this school year, but there is no limit on number of Reading mentors. Reading mentors select from one of our 28 partner schools. Reading mentors read 1:1 for one day each week (Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday) for 30 minutes between 11a and 1:30p during the school year. They should plan for a 1 hour time commitment total.Volunteers can sign up for one of the following frequencies:- WEEKLY VOLUNTEER - same time each week - SHARED VOLUNTEER - paired with another volunteer; often 2x per month - FLEXTRA - read 1x per month, read at the same school with student as needed To sign up, complete the online volunteer application at www.leadtoreadkc.org/volunteer. Please indicate you learned about this opportunity through Unite KC. You will receive an email with instructions to complete a background check. Once the background check is passed, you will be assigned to a school (can indicate preference on the application) to begin reading!
